The internet of nature. How fungi connect the forest.
Sometimes invisible helpers, the ones that are seldom mentioned, make things work for everyone. That is how I felt when I learned more about what the realm of Fungi does for all living things. But times are changing, and the fungi are taking their rightful place among the savers of our planet.
The fear of mushrooms
As is the case for many of us, I learned while growing up to fear every mushroom and fungus I should encounter. Just the very few displayed at supermarkets were worth our attention; the rest were left alone, never to be touched or understood.
Although it might come as some kind of basic knowledge to you, I thought that mushrooms were plants for a long while. But the truth of the matter is that they are not. Fungi are clearly distinguished beings from all other living organisms. Furthermore, fungi are way older than animals or plants and have been granting them help from the beginning. Without fungi, none of this would be possible.
